Zofran Use For Morning Sickness & Is it Safe?

Zofran Use For Morning Sickness is very commom.

But does this mean it is a safe nausea medication for pregnant women?

Like with many FDA approved drugs "Nobody" real knows for sure.

Simply stated there has not been enough studies conducted over a long enough time.

Zofran and Pregnancy - Safe Together?

International studies conduct on Zofran and pregancy indicate that moms should take precautions and not breastfeed their new borns after birth.

MedSafe, a New Zealand government organization, has a data sheet on Zofran (Ondansetron) which states the following:

"The safety of ondansetron for use in human pregnancy has not been established. Evaluation of experimental animal studies does not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects with respect to the development of the embryo, or foetus, the course of gestation and peri- and post-natal development. However, as animal studies are not always predictive of human response the use of ondansetron in pregnancy is not recommended.

Tests have shown that ondansetron passes into the milk of lactating animals. It is therefore recommended that mothers receiving ondansetron should not breast-feed their babies."

In conclusion, Zofran Use For Morning Sickness seems to have a place for certain women who exprience sever morning sickness called Hyperemesis Gravidarum.

"The most commonly reported adverse events in patients receiving ZOFRAN in clinical trials were:

• headache (5% to 27%)
• diarrhea (<1% to 16%)
• constipation (<1% to 9%)
• fever (<1% to 8%)
• malaise/fatigue (0% to13%)
